Equipment Descriptions
EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION As outlined on the US Forest Service Website
PART I – SECTION B – SUPPLIES OR SERVICES
SCHEDULE OF ITEMS AWARDS For Solicitation WO-02-30VM
The Forest Service has developed an equipment designator to describe radio equipment on the Schedule of Items. The designator consists of six letters and three numbers; e.g., “PLSH-4.4-H-1.5-B”, “MEPM-4.4-H-50-B”, etc. The letters and numbers represent the characteristics required of the equipment being ordered. Characteristics are described in the identified sections of the Minimum Standard Specifications. First Letter – Identifies equipment type (Specification 3.0): B=Base M=Mobile P=Portable A=Aircraft Second Letter – Identifies type of controls (Specification 4.0):
L=Local E=Extended R=Remote A=Aircraft T=Local Test K=Repeater M=Microwave Third Letter – Identifies type of microphone (Specification 5.0):
P=Palm-Held D=Desk Stand S=Self-Contained H=Headset Fourth Letter – Identifies type of housing (Specification 6.0):
T=Table Top C=Compact Vertical F=Floor Mount M=Mobile P=Packset Portable H=Personal Portable N=19″ Rack G=Transportable Rptr A=Aircraft Fifth Letter – Identifies the operating frequency band (Specification 2.10):
L=Low Band H=High Band U=UHF Sixth Letter – Identifies the operating channel spacing (Specification 2.17):
N=12.5 kHz Only (Narrowband) W=15, 20, 25, or 30 kHz Only (Wideband) B=Both 12.5 and 25 kHz (Narrowband/Wideband) First Number – Identifies the transmit channel capacity (Specification 8.1.G) Second Number – Identifies the receive channel capacity (Specification 7.1.K) Third Number – Identifies the minimum transmitter carrier power output (Po) (Specification 8.1.A) Examples: BASE BLDC-2.1-H-50-N – This designator describes a base radio with local controls, desk stand microphone, compact vertical cabinet, two channel transmitter, one channel receiver, operating in the high band, a minimum carrier power output of 50 watts, and 12.5 kHz operating channel spacing only.
BASE REPEATER BKPF-(1.1-U-25-N) (2.1-H-50-N) – Where more than one transmitter and/or receiver is ordered in the same housing, the multiple transmitter and/or receiver sections of the designator will be separated by parenthesis. MOBILE M(X)PM-2.2-H-50-B – (X) is used for items not covered by the list of designators. A narrative description shall be provided.
